22 — Logan
All things considered, life was going surprisingly well for as hectic as it was. My munchkin and I moved all of his personal things into my ranch house right before he opened the bakery. I did everything I could to help him get ready for the grand reopening and we’d even spent the night upstairs in the too-small bed.
Scarlett had her spot in the corner of the kitchen, out of the way but still where she could see Rhett. We’d made some frantic phone calls to the health department with regards to having her in the kitchen and after all of the required paperwork was faxed to them, we were given the green light for her to be there.
I’d left first thing opening morning when Rhett had gotten up and made his way to the kitchen at four in the morning. I knew he’d have to be up insanely early, but now that I knew he’d have to be at the bakery at four in the morning, I was concerned with him living out at the ranch with me. Especially once bad weather set in. Starting mid-October that could happen at any time.
After getting my phone calls and paperwork finished out at the ranch, I headed back to Son of a Biscuit. I promised Rhett I would stop by and see how things were going. The buzz around town was nothing but positive and everyone seemed happy and excited about having a bakery in town again.
I had to park several blocks away and found that promising if everyone was in the bakery. It looked like every person in town was there as I started walking to Son of a Biscuit. When I arrived and saw nothing but people standing outside it, I knew Rhett was having an amazing opening and couldn’t wait to congratulate him on it. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to get in the door, and it was rude to cut in line, I decided to use my “boyfriend of the owner” privileges and go around the back and enter the door I’d left through a few hours before.
“Logan! Where are you going?” I heard Simon shout at me from somewhere in the line. Turning around, I noticed our families had gathered and were patiently waiting in the line with what looked like half the county.
“Did any of you expect a turn out like this?” I asked when I joined the rest of them.
“Not quite this big, but I’m happy for Rhett. Although, a little concerned he’s going to be overwhelmed,” Jasper stated while several others nodded their heads in agreement.
“How long have y’all been out here waiting?”
“About a half hour or so. When we got in line, it was a ways back. You never did say where you were going? Are you not going to wait to go to the bakery?”
“I was going to the bakery to see Rhett. But I was using boyfriend privileges and was going to go in the door in the back.
